ANA Scientific Committee

With the assistance of the Ministry of Health, ANA established a Scientific Committee in 2004. The Committee's goal is to provide New Zealand nutrition and physical activity practitioners with practical evidence summaries about issues of interest to ANA members. Expressions of interest came from a number of high calibre researchers.

Robert Quigley, Dr Rachel Brown and Professor Grant Schofield currently make up the Scientific Committee.

Topics that have been reviewed to date include:

  • Sugary drinks and their effect on childhood obesity
  • TV viewing and its effect on childhood obesity
  • Breakfast and its effect on academic performance, healthy body weight and nutrient intake and lifestyle habits in children
  • Does the family environment contribute to food habits and behaviours and physical activity in children?

For each topic the Committee reviewed the scientific literature and synthesised the different forms of evidence into a practitioner focused summary.

Reports are available below. New reports will be added to this page and distributed through ANA networks and information channels.

If you have a topic you would like reviewed contact Nicola Chilcott: nicola@ana.org.nz.
